Cross Browser Compatibility SUCKS…

Ok so i’ve not blogged for absolutely ages, and to be honest, I HAVE missed it. It’s always nice to do, especially when you have the urge to vent. For the last few weeks, i’ve been working on website(s) and doing design and so forth, which I enjoy. Yet these days, trying to retain 100% cross browser compatbility feels like you’re working against all evils. I seem to spend about an hour or two implementing ideas, to find either there is NO WAY in hell I can retain it’s look and feel in other browsers, or alternatively it’ll take me the rest of the day bug fixing, and implementing work around code, browser specfic. At the butt of it all, is obviously Internet Explorer 6. It is quite rediculous and infuriating the browser with by far the largest market share, is by FAR the oldest too. It really does feel like Microsoft are killing some wonderful ideas, in terms of design and layout (and I imagine in other areas too) by not updating the world’s most popular Web Browser. In most cases Safari and FireFox render things exactly the same, often only minor tweaks are needed to align these two up.. But IE? Ugh, it’s awful in my opinion, it really does double my workload, having to constantly BABYSIT THE BROWSER!! :( Can you feel my frustration?

This blog post comes off the back of a good 4-5hrs working on a module of a site, only to realize it’s probably never going to work in IE6, and MIGHT work in FireFox… I am quite ‘pissed off’, right now. Back to the drawing board for me. :(
