Why Vanilla rocks…
After recently playing Dead Rising a fair bit, and constantly tripping over content about it, on Matchbox360 I decided it was time to expand, for the masses the categories slightly to include a Dead Rising category. With that said, I thought it’d be a good idea, to further shout about some of the great features, on our new forums, and how users can make the most of them. It then dawned on me, one of the reasons the forums feels familiar is because some of the features share parity to Google’s Gmail. Most notably, Gmail’s starring makes a forum appearance, courtesy of ‘bookmarks’, and ‘filters’ also are apart of the forums, by means of ‘Saved Searches’. Like I commented, in my most recent forum sticky this really does bring a more personalized approach to the forums, and really does kick categories in the teeth. Categories were nice in their day, but frankly their days are numbered, with tags cropping up on all kinds of sites. With that said, I am sure features like the two mentioned will appear on other popular bulletin boards in the near future. I think people will take many cues from Vanilla, which takes a more modern and personalized approach to web discussions, something that I think was long overdue.
Speaking of tags, I also claimed my blog, over at Technorati, quite why I did that, i don’t know, I guess I am fairly well tangled up in Web 2.0 of late?! I have to say, the layout of the site, and speed too, is far from desirable, it does feel a bit confusing, which isn’t good coming from someone pretty tech savvy. Alas, I’ll have a play, and if you own a blog, maybe you should hit up Technorati and claim yours back!
