Phones, 2007. What next?
Ok, so it’s that time of the year again, my contract is about 12 months now, and I CAN get a new phone. I love my phone I have right now, it’s a W900i from Sony Ericsson. I’ve always loved the unique style, crossed with features of my phone, and of course now i look for both of those features, upgraded this time round. After scanning the horizons, mostly looking at Sony Ericsson’s offerings for 2007, I am left a little reluctant to upgrade. I am curious about the M600i and W950i, but neither have a camera and that is an instant killer for me. Beyond that, the only other phone of interest is the K800i but this phone doesn’t exact shout out ‘style’ either (Despite being in Casino Royale! ). I just hope Sony Ericsson announce some new phones very shortly. I’ve been doing some reading at phone enthusiasts sites, and a few phones from Sony Ericsson are rumoured for announcement, somewhat soon. Most of the interest falls on the shoulders of the phone, codenamed ‘Sofia’.
Sofia, The K800 successor and could be named K850. 5 megapixel camera with xenon flash and QVGA recording. Not entirely like the N95 in terms of technology, but more mass market. Same size as the K610. 2.2 inch scratch resistant screen. EDGE and UTMS. Will be out by Q2, maybe even Q1 to not let the N95 have too much of a head start. This may have the new UI.
Sounds very nice. Brings me onto my other point though, the N95. I am a huge fan of Sony Ericsson, my last 3 phones have been from them (P900, S700i, W900i), but the specs to the N95 are really… Wow. Specs can be found here. In simpler terms, the WiFi, 5mp camera, QVGA screen and VGA video recording are huge leaps forward for 2007. I am tempted by this phone, other than the Sony Ericsson, the only other place I can really see something awesome happening is rumours come true, with Apple’s Macworld keynote on Monday.
Monday, Steve Jobs will do his yearly keynote at San Francisco and talk about Apple affairs, including Mac, iPod, and service like iTunes. It’s no secret that the web has been rife with rumours of an Apple crafted phone for years. Will it come this January? I sure hope so, couldn’t be better timing…

Why not get either the M600 (which I love the look of) or the N95, if you don’t like em flog em.
