Full speed Hoff…

Hoff After some chatting to Stephen (spelt wrong) aka Addict 74, about broadband, and more specfically Sky Broadband, it left me with the taste of I needed a far better deal. I’ve been paying £23.44 for my 1Mbit/256Kbit aDSL line from Pipex, and although it’s LONG been a costly deal by comparison, it has always been reliable. More-over, the connection seems BETTER than many people on faster connections on rival ISP’s, hence me keeping it for so long… Today I called them up, and explained how I thought it simply wasn’t good enough, given the length of time i’ve been with them, and it turns out they actually offer PipexMAX, which is upto 8Mbit/448Kbit uncapped for £24.99. I’ve agreed to the upgrade and look forward to the same service at a faster pace in the future. The only thing that annoys me though, is why I wasn’t ever offered this. It’s crazy to be paying £23.44 for 1Mbit/256Kbit, surely for good customers they should offer an upgrade for you?! :(

Most ISPs will upgrade you at any point in your contract, it means they get more money out of you, why would they say no? :P

Yea all companies do this. We were with ntl 1mb for 24.99 a month. When we told them we were leaving they offered us 8mb for 17.99 a month. My dad was well pissed because we’d never been offered this.

We’re now with bethere broadband which is 24mb for 24.99 a month so.

24mb? Your phone lines must be hella modern to be able to do that? What kind of data rates do you get on that , Matt?

I see what you’re saying Stew, but if they DID openly offer to lower my bills, the chances are i’d value them more and want to stick with someone who appears to care about me, and the service/price point?

Well we’re about 3 and a half miles away from the exchange so i usually get about 8 mb out of it.

Suprising thing though, when we phoned them up they actually told us that we probly wouldn’t get the full 24mb. The first company to actually tell us the truth.

This is one of the reasons I left Pipex as I didn’t feel they were looking after their existing customers, and they just seemed to be in a mess. Found this article that mighr interest you, looks like they might be up for sale:

Pipex did tell me the same thing Matt, which was kind of nice I guess. Time will tell.

Stephie – Err… Thanks for telling me that now! If they are bought by BT, omfg I will be PISSED OFF – unless it gives me a chance to try Xbox 360 IPTV! :P
