Lille vs Man Utd…

Don’t know how many of my ‘loyal’ readers even care for football, but if you did, what did you make of the fiasco tonight? In my eyes, well… Vidic was clearly pushed, to allow Odemwingie the opportunity to head home, and the free kick? Well, it’s been good enough for Henry a few times over in England, why should this be any different? If you’ve had your wall pushed back 10 yards, been lining up for a while and the referee’s backed away from the ball, be READY to defend it. Some argue simply that the referee should blow a whistle, I can see your argument to a degree but this is dead ball. Dead ball situations beyond penalties don’t appear to REQUIRE the referee to blow the whistle, it’s more of a common sense issue; look at corners, how often do you wait for the whistle to take a corner?

Crowd trouble? I was shocked to see fans climbing up on top of the chairs and fencing, it gave me chills, after seeing some horrible holligan activities from supporters from England. Whilst I don’t know the full story, it concerns me to learn that possibly there were TOO many supporters in a section of the ground, causing fans to be feeling squeezed in, or worse; crushed. Surely Hillsborough was an example to football clubs around the world, and in a world of all seater stadiums, how can this happen?

As for the team, seamingly ready to leave the pitch, well… That is a joke, the team, the club and it’s staff should be made an example of UEFA, that is no way to conduct yourself, even if you feel you’ve been hard done by. How many other teams have felt ‘cheated’ after a refereeing decision, plenty, I can vouch coming from an England supporter. ;) I would never dream of dragging my team off, or expecting to see fellow professionals doing the same! I hope to see some action with regards to this in teh news in the coming days. It appears Sir Alex Ferguson feels the same way, after a post match interview.

I saw a few bits of this tonight while i was at work and it was the only thing people were talking about. I heard someone say that they used tear gas because the police over reacted when they thought the pitch was being invaded. Only to find out later that they were climbing the fences to aviod being crushed!

What a joke. The team were a bunch of cry babies thowing their dummy out after the free kick.
