Pipex is for sale?

Apparently, Pipex could be the next ISP in the long line of smaller ISP’s, being gobbled up by larger internet providers after announcing it could be for sale. Personally speaking, this comes as no surprise, after i’d previously read they’d lost alot of money via excessive amounts of PR. The question I beg there is, how much does ‘The Hoff’ cost exactly? Jesus. I guess it serves Pipex right, using a ‘AAA’ celebrity like that, huh?!

I am just glad, I won’t be home to experience Pipex during the majority of my contract. Since moving to ‘upto 8Mb’, it’s been alot worse for me than my old flat ’1Mb’ service. Annoyingly, I have never actually peaked higher than 2Mb, either.

Dear readers, what ISP do you use, and how do you rate them? Steve, I know your Sky seems badass, but you do live in Chav central too, so you probably have pimp fibre lines or something, huh?!

I am with WightCableNorth.com who are either rebranding or have been bought by some company called SmallWorld… according to a flyer included in today’s bill we are getting new settop boxes and download speeds of upto 20Mb with uploads of 5Mb available :D

Be broadband as they’re known is a small sweedish (i think) company now operating in limited areas of the Uk. London, Birmingham and Manchester i belive. I’m on 24MB for £24.99 a month but i live 2 and a half miles from the exchange so i only get about 6-8 out of it on a good day. Still not had any problems with them whatsoever. Free Wireless router, easy set up and it works with my Wii and 360 so. I couldn’t be happier.

Sky Suck btw, friggin, 4 months to get a sodding letter through with a confirmation code. Screw that!

Very happy with Sky, although I think coming from Pipex I would have been happy with anyone. Was a bit disappointed that my line couldn’t handle much more than 8mb considering my connection is ‘upto’ 16mb, just goes to show those pimp fibre lines going to my caravan aren’t all that great ;) . Better than on the farm though it would seem.

    Ha ha, shut it!

Interesting to see you hate Sky, Matt and Steve on the other hand swears by it. I can’t really comment on your connection Matt, though I presume your hosting abilities are decent on team games greater than 8 people; like say Vegas and GRAW? I have been impressed with Steve’s connection, it seems vastly better than mine (Pipex), Jay’s (NTL) and Cormac’s (too stupid to know ISP :P ). Stew, how’s your hosting man? I’ve played in your games and sometimes it’s been tip top, and other times a nightmare. What’s the story there dude?

Well you know when i was disconnected from the internet? It was because sky said we had to do all this stuff, told us to cancel our internet provider and then we waited 2 months before deciding to go with Be. I know nothing of their hosting but i know their customer service is crap. We eventually got a letter 2 months after going with be who set up our internet within 5 days.

They talked to sky, talked to the exchange and got everything switched over really quickly. My only problem with sky is their customer service at the end of the day.

Just never ever go with Plusnet, whatever you do.

They are great if everything runs fine, but their customer service is shocking to say the least and we’ve been arguing with them since August as our line is only getting 0.5MB, instead of the 7.5 our line can actually carry.

We’ve had 4 BT engineers here who have all told us that our line is fine and the problem is with Plusnet. Plusnet on the other hand are claiming it’s BT’s fault.

So, why does it happen that we get 7.5MB on our line when the BT engineer tests it, yet only 0.5 when we’re connected to Plustnet?

/rant. Sorry! ISP’s drive me crazy!
