Well done ladies…

So England played their third and final group match of the women’s world cup, in China yesterday lunchtime. After a two draws, against Japan, and the current world champions, Germany, it was the turn of Argentina to try their luck against England. They were coming in off the back of a recent draw against Japan, and a 11-0 mauling at the hands of Germany. It’s fair to assume England were being coy, in not saying they’d easily beat the Argentinians, despite most definitely thinking about it.

So it started in great fashion, Argentina scoring a well finished own goal in the opening 6 minutes. A second goal, bounced under the goal keeper, a minute later from at least 20 yards and England were firmly set, on their way to the semi finals. The game continued in similar fashion from there; Argentina defending and rarely pushing forward to attack, and the game finished with a tidy 6-1 score line. England dominated the possession, practically every statistic, and were very much worthy winners. Bring on the semi finals, this Saturday, 1pm, BBC1.
